International communication becomes more and more frequent with the economic globalization and rapid development of economy in China, which demands highly for college students'English proficiency. As a useful access to the mastery of English, more importance is attached to college English teaching than before. In modern times, the attention of the college English teaching was attracted by the rapid development of modern educational technology. The application of Multimedia and network in foreign language classroom has been considered as an effective medium of foreign language teaching. In the last few years, many colleges and universities in China have experimented with multimedia and network in college English instruction. Computer-assisted language learning (CALL) becomes popular among both teachers and students in college English teaching and learning. How to improve students'English proficiency in college English classroom teaching through the application of multimedia and network has become a new topic in the implementation.The study of task-based Language Teaching (TBLT) began in the 1980s, the basic concept of which is"learning by doing". A lot of experts and scholars have studied in this area and made many achievements. TBLT is a new development of CLT (Communicative Language Teaching). It is aiming at making language teaching and learning in the classroom authentic and real. TBLT starts from doing every concrete task and its learning process is the process of task finishing. The achievement of learning is the accomplishment of the task. All of the features show its student-centred tenet.This thesis focuses on the implementation and efficiency of TBLT in the CALL setting. With the advantage of multimedia and network, the author explores the necessity and feasibility of TBLT in CALL setting.This thesis attempts to prove that college students'English learning will be improved in CALL setting TBLT which is much more effective than traditional teaching methods. The author chooses one class of CDUT (Chengdu University of Technology) to conduct the experiment and finds out that TBLT in CALL setting improve students'English learning and college English teaching efficiency. Qualitative and quantitative methods such as tests, questionnaires and interview are used in the experiment to glean their opinions about the task-based language teaching with the aid of CALL method. EXCEL and SPSS 13.0 are used to analyze the scores of the tests. To evaluate the effectiveness of the teaching model, the author also conducts questionnaires and interview. The results indicate that the integration of TBLT and CALL did inspire students'motivation and improve their English listening.
