On Pu Xian's Theory Of Fu

Fu note is an important part of ancient Chinese literary criticism, which is also of great academic value on the study of Fu. Pu Xian from Qing Dynasty was the first one who named his works with Fu note. His two books -- Fu note from past dynasties and Fu note of Fu Xiao Zhai, are of great value not only as historical data, but also for academic study.There is large amount of information about the history of Fu and the theory of Fu in Pu Xian's Fu note, which is of great value as historical data. His Fu note provides valuable historical data on personal information of other scholars of Fu, their works of Fu, the system of test and Fu from past dynasties, and anecdotes of Fu. Except for its value as historical data, Pu Xian's Fu note is also of great value as theory of Fu. In his Fu note, Pu Xian talked about the function of works of Fu, sorted out the origin of genre of Fu, tasted styles of works of Fu, and examined techniques on writing Fu, that fully reflected his ideology of Fu. This thesis will have a discussion from three perspectives: the function of works of Fu, the origin of genre of Fu, and theory of writing Fu. And we could generalize Pu Xian's point of view on the function of works of Fu, analyse his view on the origin of genre of Fu, examine his proposition on writing Fu and his specific requirements on styles of works of Fu and techniques on writing Fu. We should pay special attention on his idea about how to write works of Fu from aspects like conception, morphology, syntax, rhythm, and rhetoric. Pu Xian's ideology of Fu contains both theory of Fu in the macroscopic point of view and criticism on concrete works of Fu, that makes it a well-organized theory system. This thesis expounds the value of Pu Xian's Fu note as historical data and theory of Fu, and selects several scholars of Fu like Du Fu, Yuan Bai, Huang Tao, Wang Qi, Su Shi and Wang Yi to expound and verify on the basis of Pu Xian's criticism on concrete works of Fu, which tries to make complement on his ideology of Fu.Pu Xian's Fu note not only collected widely from others' view point, which was considered as a great beginning in the history of Chinese Fu, but also played an important role on the development of Fu and the critical system of Fu in Qing Dynasty. To sum up, Pu Xian' Fu note fully reflected his ideology of Fu. His works are of great value as historical data and theory of Fu in the history of Chinese Fu, and his ideology of Fu is of great value in the history of Chinese Fu as well.
