Research On The You Tai Xian Guan Note By Yu Yue

Yu Yue was the rear guard figure in Confucian classics in late Qing Dynasty, and was world-famous for his achievements in Confucian classics. However, such a scholar was keen on "unpopular" field to create a series of classical Chinese novels, among which The You Tai Xian Guan Note was most famous, and deserved to be concerned within the educational circle. This thesis will go into a deep research towards Yu Yue’s You Tai Xian Guan Note from following four chapters:The first chapter mainly discusses his motivations of creating, which are reflected in cultural accumulation of his family literature origin, creation intention of dissuading earthliness and creation psychology of pastime and self-entertainment.The second part focuses on discussion of the effects of Confucian classics thinking way on his creation of The You Tai Xian Guan Note. In this novel, Yu Yue cited the classics and investigated origins. He could attach importance to authenticity of stories, and often processed novel narration through his modes of doing scholarly research, which all indicated his strong historical consciousness and memoir spirit, as well as a scholar’s intense attention to reality.The third chapter mainly expounds the inheritance and transcendence of The You Tai Xian Guan Note to traditional mysterious and supernatural subject matters, including Yu Yue’s reconstruction of evil and nether world concerning mysterious and supernatural subjects. Besides, he expanded story themes to people and supernatural things, and recorded strange persons and affairs in Japan based on traditional perspective, especially the novel reveals the negative impact of the late Qing Dynasty turbulent social reality and the war brought to the social life, which embodied relatively strong realistic characteristics.The fourth chapter puts emphasis on unscrambling the stylistic art of The You Tai Xian Guan Note and comparing it with Notes of the Yuewei Hermitage. In the fiction, the author was good at comprehensively applying various narration skills to reasonably arrange the structure of the fiction, making the story plot provided with one climax following another occasionally and character vivid. Thus a lot of excellent writings sprung up, embodying the strong literary form of author. As the outstanding work among imitations of Notes of the Yuewei Hermitage, it reflected the inheritance and innovation of Notes of the Yuewei Hermitage in terms of theme and narrative art, which is provided with its unique artistic value.
