The Research Of "Xi Hu Er Ji"

In the history of Hua ben novel, Xi Hu Er Ji is a good one. Although there are some study, by contrast, the study isn't thorough. This paper draws on the experience of the senior scholar and give an incisive discuss on it.Except for preface and epilogue, this article is divided into four parts. Section One, the general situation of Xi Hu Er Ji. In this part, we will give a simple instruction on Zhou Qingyuan, the source of tale in Xi Hu Er Ji and the background under which Mr Zhou created his novel. From the preface of the novel written by Hu Haishi, we have a few knowledge of Zhou. He is erudite, but hasn't any success in official career and lives in poor in all his life. At the end of Ming Dynasty, the government fallen into crisis. With it, the functional knowledge was popular. It made a influence on the work of Mr Zhou. He often tried to persuade people to observe the morals of his age in his fiction. At the same time, the humanism also affected his write.Section two, probes into the ideological contents. The content is multifarious and covers many aspects. It embodies that the author gives a value on emotion, severely criticizes the gloomy society. The novel also shows sympathy for people lived in war. Besides, it also reflects the writer's perplex about the fate of intellectual. Some scholar pointed out that Mr Zhou made his characters to rigidly comply with the morals of his age. This viewpoint isn't precise. Except for showing the conformance with morals, the novel also puts sympathy on emotion.Section three, sums up the features of art of the novel. It uses kinds of techniques (for example: typical events) to portray characters. The plot is tortuous. Language are vivid, rich in emotion.Section four, compares Xi Hu Er Ji with Sa Yan Er Pai. They have different narrating focus. The former focus on tales about the famous, by contrast, the latter puts its core on the life of common people when the writer tells about his story. Meanwhile, on the way to construct ideological values system, the authors fall into confusion. Besides, the characters are different from each other.By close read, compare and other ways, I try to give a thorough discuss on the novel in this paper, for example, to introduce the author, Zhou Qingyuan, generalize the writing background, probe into the ideological contents and sum up the features of art of the novel. Meanwhile, I make a comparison between Xi Hu Er Ji and SanYan Er Pai. And I wish my work can promote the study on the novel.
