Childhood is a critical period to the formation of a person’s outlook on life and values, and excellent children’s literary works can play a positive guiding role in their growth. American children’s literature not only possesses a long history and great number of works, but also is rich in the theme with many works focusing on the growth of children’s spiritual world. Therefore, for this translation practice, the author selects the American children’s literature writer Jacqueline Woodson’s Feathers (the first and second chapter), hoping to enrich our country children’s reading experience. In the process of translation, the author always takes the children readers’ cognitive ability and the ability to accept into consideration, trying hard to produce works liked and loved by children readers. Firstly, in terms of translation of the word, the author pays attention to the use of interjection, onomatopoetic words and four-syllable words which are widely loved by children readers. And for the reading barriers caused by the long and complex sentences, the author tries to simplify them by dividing method and rearranging the sentence logic order. As for the translation of the rhetoric in some sentences, the author also adopts ways that are easy for children readers to understand and accept.Through this translation practice, the author realizes there are several aspects that are needed to be considered to do a good children’s literature translation. Translators should not only understand the original text as a whole, but also need to target children readers as the center of the translation work to produce a translation that is loved by children and let them get the same experience as original readers. Therefore, translators should have solid foundation of language skills and cross-cultural knowledge. At the same time, in order to improve translation ability, translators should connect theories and strategies with practice closely.
