The red dowry of miles prevailed in the Ningshao region during the Qing Dynasty. The scale of the dowry furniture is so large that all the things are prepared from soup to nuts, including the elaborative bed, tables, cabinets, cupboards, hangers, Chundeng, toilet bowls, dressing tables, even some little things like the daily wooden wares and sewing kit. All these are because that the whole set of implements are painted by the red lacquers and the gold. The wonderful arrangement of the red and golden colors makes all the things seemingly festive and noble. To some degree, the red dowry of miles indicates a right and legal marriage, and symbolizes the identity and status of the bride in the husband's family. On the other hand, the red dowry of miles not only directly displays the affluence of the two families, but also relates to the marriage system in ancient China.
