As one of the mediation and control mechanism of human society, dowry has multiple social and cultural significance. Through the preparation, delivery, control and use, dowry will get people and things, people and people, group and group together. Then forming a community that interest and significance are intertwined, and constructing a definite meaning resource boundaries in its interior. Dowry is higher than the bride-price is a long-standing phenomenon in Bajiaoqing village of Yunnan province. Focusing on this, author does specific research on dowry and bride-price in this village. First, researching the situation of Miao’s dowry by door to door, understanding the local dowry’s history of change and contemporary situation. Then choosing several typical dowry in each historical stage as a case study. Key investigated the number of the dowry, the dowry’s provider, the relationship between the bride and provider, and the daughter should be responsible for the mother home in terms of building, funeral and busy season. Finally, basing on the analysis of all aspects to explain the formation of dowry is higher than bride-price. It’s not only laid the practice foundation with the real precious for the new family to carry out the production and living, but also strengthen the stability of local marriage and individual family with the rich symbolic meanings. Thus we can know the motivation of precious dowry is not conspicuous or competitive factor, but in the long run to create a multi-level, long-term, frequent mutual network between the new family and the in-laws home. The root is the local affinity’s core effects in the history and reality to build community as well as maintain production and life practice, which deeply contained behind the facade of patriarchy.
