This thesis mainly talks about the performing arts of Niu Decao, from four aspects: the introduction, the artistic life of Niu Decao, the performing arts of Niu Decao and the aesthetic feature of Niu Decao's performing arts. The aesthetic feature of Niu Decao can be sumarized as ugly on the surface while beautiful in deep down.The introduction of this thesis talks about the cause of this subject. The cause of this thesis is the lack of study on the arts of Niu School in theory field recently. The introduction aims at studying the performing arts of Niu Decao from the hight of theory though the research on Niu Decao's performing arts, carrying forward the arts of Niu School. At the same time, this thesis will make up the lack of study on the arts of Niu School in the theory field. Besides, the induction also talks about the current research situation of this subject and the method of this research.The chapter 2 mainly talks about the experiences of Niu Decao during his artistic career and the artistic achievements of Niu Decao. Meanwhile, this thesis talks about Niu Decao's experiences during his artistic career from three aspects:his rosming the yellow river area, beginning to show his talent in ugly role area, the twists and turns and the victory he experienced. The artistic achievements of Niu Decao mainly including establishing the Niu School, rearranging, sorting out, directing and acting the important works by himself, the contribution he made in traditional opera teaching and he created new accent and ordered play.In chapter 3, the thesis mainly talks about the performing arts of Niu Decao. It narrates respectively from the vocal music in a Chinese opera, the monologue, and posture performance. The characteristic of the vocal music in a Chinese opera of Niu Decao can be manifested by the capricious use of different styles and the ingenious use of diversified ornamental tones. In terms of singing method, he pays attention to the use of nasal sound and the ingenious use of Da Bensang and Er Bensang. Besides, he often adds rich words to set off the words of the traditional Chinese opera, which makes the vocal music in a Chinese opera more fluent. The characteristic of his monologue is humorous and witty. His comical and amusing posture performance not only shows character images perfectly, but also shows the ugly aspect of ugly role. We can drow a conclusion that the vocal music in a Chinese opera, the monologue, and the posture performance not only show characters vidvidly but also show the humorous and comical character distinctly.Chapter 4 mainly analyses the aesthetic feature of Niu Decao's performing arts, that is ugly on the surface while beautiful in deep down. Chapter 4 mainly includes two aspects. The first aspect is the analysis of the cause of his aesthetic feature which is ugly on the surface while beautiful in deep down. In this part, this thesis analyses the developing process of the appreciation of the ugly in both China and the west. The developing process goes through three phases:the phase of the appreciation of the beautiful at the beginning, the phase of acknowledging ugly role and the phase of the appreciation of the ugly. The developing process shows that the aesthetic conceptions of people no longer just confine to the beautiful, instead, it pay attention to the unity of beautiful and ugly. Besides, the formation of Niu Decao's aesthetic feature which is ugly on the surface while beautiful in deep down is greatly affected by not only the guide of teacher Xiao Changhua, but also affected by the appreciation need from the audience of Henan Opera and the turbulent social environment. The second part analyses aesthetic feature of Niu Decao's performing arts from three aspects:the sense of sight, the sense of hearing and the character image he acts.The last part of this thesis is conclusion, which is the summary of the viewpoint in this thesis.
