Henan Opera is an important part of Chinese traditional opera culture. Honglian (Red Face) is a keycharacter in Henan Opera who mainly play the role of emperors, kings, generals and ministers. LiuZhonghe, the leading role of today’s Honglian learns from other’s strong points by absorbing the sing ofelder artist of Henan Opera Tangyucheng and other outstanding artists. And he combines his own voicecondition and works hard to create a new brand Liu School of Henan Opera which is a key school of HenanOpera.The sing of Liu Zhonghe is crude and bold and has his own style, his performance is skillful and vivid,and thus he has many students and fans across China. He also plays an important role in the reform anddevelopment of Honglian in Henan Opera. Based on the field research, this thesis analyzes his singcharacters and performance styles from his life experience and elaborates the formation, inheritance anddevelopment of the Liu School.There are five parts in the thesis:The first part is the introduction which puts forward the author’s own research perspective andmethods.The second part (the first chapter) introduces his lifetime of art and summarizes the achievement hehas gained in the field of opera through his efforts and the sing style of Liu School gradually formed.The third part(the second and third chapter) elaborates his sing characters and performance stylesbased on the analysis of the acoustics materials, opera examples and interviews of Liu Zhonghe, hisstudents and composers.The fourth part(the chapter four) analyzes the inheritance form and development tendency of LiuSchool Art and the important role Liu Zhonghe plays in Honglian of Henan Opera.The fifth part is the conclusion.
