A Study On The Image Of Wei-Jin Fu

This research paper is a basic text of the image of Wei-jin fu. On the basis of wide collection and arrangement of related material and data, this paper analyzes the works of Wei-jin fu, compares the fu with the one in Han dynasty and summarizes the general features of them. The paper focuses on the unique emotional experience of works on the historical and cultural background, and argues the influence of the social environment has on the writers of fu. This paper focuses on the images of bird, cicada, locust, lotus and fan and analyzes its unique symbolic meanings.The first chapter of the paper is introduction, including the purpose and significance of the paper, research situation, research scope and research method.The second chapter introduces the definition of image. The concept of image is first appeared in Liu xie's Wen Xin Diao Long and refers to the artistic image which is constructed in human mind. The meanings of image used later are different, and its meaning in literary theory is the artistic image with rich connotation.This paper explores the style of Wei-jin fu from the aspect of historical source of its creation, and focuses on the influence the social environment and personal feelings have on the creation of Wei-jin fu and the inheritance of former fu. The creation of fu of image can be traced back to Xunzi, Quyuan and Song yu in Pre-Qin dynasty, which is fu of describing things, focusing on lyrical. The connotation of fu changes over time, and fu of image plays an important role in Han Dynasty, when fu of Pinci is dominant.The third chapter focuses on the main image in Wei-jin fu, and select out the images of bird, cicada, locust, lotus and fan as the research object. Firstly it analyzes the relationship between the creation of fu of bird and writers'life experiences and personal sentiment from the aspect of connotation and paradigm of bird image, and argues the philosophy and insights of life. The image of bird has a distant cultural origin and the metaphor of life is the common internal feature of the bird images. As a long-term accumulation of national psychology, these bird images inherit rich literati spirit and have deep cultural connotation. Secondly, this paper analyzes the formation of image culture of cicada, image of autumn and its noble quality by interpretation of fu of Youngchan, the image of cicada reflects the thoughts of Laozi and Zhuangzi, and the lobility of cicada, the wail of grief and indignation, the shortness of life all expresses heir inner feelings. Then the solemn and nobleness of locust and lotus are explained. Thirdly, this part analyzes the life image of fan, the image of yuan and lian, the image of xianrenshizhi. The image of fan has deep culture connotation and reflects the life experiences of literates and scholars, whereas, the formation of culture is inseparable with the profound and cultural soil.Chapter four argues the Shibuyu, the symbolic meaning of good will, the emotional tone of sadness and aesthetic image of putting emotion to scenery in image of Wei-jin fu. The image of Wei-jin fu is an artistic image which writers create based on the subjective aesthetic activities on objective things. It relates with the personal psychology and aesthetic orientation, it is an organic unity between the writers'spirit and objective things, and it has a particular meaning or reflects the understanding of life and emotional expression.This paper draws the conclusion that the image of Wei-jin fu has rich cultural connotation, and carries various symbolic meanings.
