Intercultural communication competence has become one of the essential skills of modern talents, and should be cultivated in English teaching. As one of component of College English teaching, listening teaching should also involve cultural elements and communication parts. But when searching lots of related literature, the author found that the practical study combining culture teaching with listening teaching and cultivating intercultural communication competence in listening teaching are rare. Therefore, the author tries to discover that the status quo of combination of listening teaching and culture teaching; whether intercultural awareness and intercultural communication competence have been mentioned in listening teaching, and put forward the suggestions to cultivating students'intercultural communication competence.Based on the previous data, this research used quantitative and qualitative research methods. With the tools of questionnaires, listening tests and class observations, the present study investigates 140 non-English majors from four different departments in Guangxi Normal University as the sample; and the author also did some classroom observations to complement the quantitative research. The present study investigates 3 questions including:(1) the status quo of non-English majors'intercultural communication competence in Chinese college and whether culture teaching is regarded as the same important role as language teaching be regarded in College English class; (2) whether the students who are competent intercultural persons have a good listening comprehensive skill, that is, whether the relationship between intercultural communication competence and listening comprehensive competence is positive correlation; (3) give the College English teachers some suggestions and methods for cultivating students' intercultural communication competence and make the students become intercultural people. After collecting the data, the author used the software SPSS16.0 to analyze.The results of the research indicate that:(1) many non-English majors know quite a small part of culture knowledge and most of culture knowledge are acquired in classroom; many students don't have a high level of intercultural communication competence; and linguistic teaching still occupies most part of the class; (2) according to analyzing the results of questionnaires and listening tests, the author finds that non-English majors'listening comprehensive competence closely links to intercultural communicate competence and the two have positive correlation; (3) according to classroom observations, the author discovers that though many teachers believe culture teaching plays an important role in College English teaching and getting intercultural awareness can improve the development of students' comprehensive quality, the fact is that because of the limited time and the pressure of passing CET-4 and CET-6, teachers can not conduct culture teaching and cultivate students'intercultural communication competence systematically.Analyzing the results of this research, the author gives some suggestions, including the suggestions of the reform of CET-4 and CET-6 and the suggestions for College English teachers. In addition, the author presents several methods to develop intercultural communication competence in listening teaching, hoping these can help College English teachers.At last, the author concludes the whole research. Limitations of the present study and suggestions for further study are also elaborated in this thesis.
