Pierre Bonnard (3 October 1867-23 January 1947) was a French painter and printmaker, as well as a founding member of Les Nabis,which is the most active arts organizations at the end of 19th century. He absorbed nutrition from the Impressionist master and Oriental art, concerned and depicted life with their own unique artistic perspective, which developed his own unique art language. Although at the time in the wave of Western art, Bonnard does not lead the arts mainstream, but his art in the 20th century played a connecting link between the Western modern. For this reason, Bonnard was widespread concerned by contemporary Chinese oil painting community. Now, a growing number of Chinese painters began to learn and reference his art forms. Studying on formal beauty in its screen is more conducive to interpret the paintings of the artist.During the process of researching on this subject, the author referred to a large number of books and literature materials, as well as cited personal artistic ideas of the painter and the classic remarks of domestic and foreign artists to do the case analysis; Using the methods of literature access, image analysis, observation and so on, make systematic research all-round on the painting art of Bonnard. The author of the study, from the analysis to Bonnard's paintings, had a profound comprehension of the artistic style which the formal the language of paintings reveal:harmonious, tranquility and mystery.The whole Pater is written into two parts and divided into four chapters.the first part focuses on the basis and conditions which formed Bonnard painting,and also analyzes the elements that makes Bonnard painting style changed from the flat decorative to the impression and symbolic style,which reveals the reason influenced Bonnard's painting shifting in the form.Secondly, the author makes good study through the composition, colors, stroke (the most three important elements) to analyze how them build the art and reflect the aesthetic feeling.the second part of Pater as the key part in which the author works on the analysis basis,drawing the conclusion that Bonnard painting three important formal beauty features:harmonious beauty,blur beauty,abstract beauty, finally the author analyzes how the artist use art form to deliver the personal emotion from Bonnard works which embodied the beauty characteristics. The study comes to a conclusion that the formation of painting art should come to a perfect coherence to its spiritual insight besides its self discipline and individualism, that is to say the artist select the best expressive formation of painting to his own soul and emotion and to his own unique character of art.
