Seokbuk Sin Gwang-su (1712-1775) is a poet characterized by his concept of modern ideal and style of learned and genius composition. Gwanseo Akbu is his representative work that is produced in his old age.By adopting historical sociology, the paper makes a research on Gwanseo Akbu and investigates his previous works, so as to point out the significant of its content, personality, the role it plays in literature history, and its limitation owing to relevant factors. Thus, the paper, in the history background of Joseon Dynasty in 18th century, studies the composing inclination of contemporary Chinese poems, the characteristics of Akbu, and the composing motivation of Gwanseo Akbu.Gwanseo Akbu describes the customs, geography, history of North Korea and was farewell poems created when Fan Yan Cai Ji Gong would head for Ping Rang to be an censorate official there.Gwanseo Akbu highly praises Gwanseo's beautiful river water and natural landforms, its long history and heroic figures, its customs and folk life, the patriotism in the heart of the people living there and their loyalty to the country and the compatriots. Thus, the poet's pride in his country and his aesthetic national interests and sentiment is clearly revealed in front of us. Throughout his poems, the philosophy of "concern for and loyalty to the country" and the thought of "improve the society and enrich the people" is permeated and the view of "upright administration of the people" and the ideal of "enrich the country and the people" is also lauded by the poet.As "Bamboo-Twig Song", Gwanseo Akbu is full of the mood and rhythm of Korean folklore. Drawn from real life and taking narration as its main composing method, the poems is characterized by intoning Akbu, especially for the poets' realistic description of the folk customs, which even overcomes the limitations of intoning Akbu. This paper discusses the excellent ways Sin Gwang-su used in the work to describe the folk customs, geography and history of Korea. However, owing to the lack of prospective awareness, the expressions of estheticism and aestheticism permeating' the poems causes some limitations. However, the pure literature artistry in Gwanseo Akbu must be recognized and it is doubtless that Gwanseo Akbu is the laurel of Korean Akbu in the middle ages.
