The paper classified the traditional Hakka dress into three categories: the costumes, the accessories, and the dress for special purposes. By introducing the extrinsic characteristics, the related customs and the intrinsic cultural implications of the traditional Hakka dress, the paper is to display the styles and characteristics of the traditional Hakka dress, besides, the aesthetic appeal and art wisdom of the Hakka people. The commonest way of dressing for the Hakka people is"the large unlined upper garment deserving to large fork pants". Their costumes have strong characteristics, such as summer hats, winter headscarves, children hats, aprons for daily dress, embroidered shoes and shoe insoles, etc. Generally the Hakka women keep single braid before married, and roll their hair into a chignon when married. There are some other ceremonies for marriage. The Hakka people live in the mountainous area with flourishing trees and burbling rivers, which is an ideal place for planting ramie, flax, and indigo. The Hakka people make full use of their natural resources, through the processes of weaving, pasting and dying, making the plants into linen for summer wear and indigo cloth, which are well- known all around the country. Cotton and silk are produced by the silk cotton tree and the local silkworm respectively, while the cotton used for the traditional Hakka dress is largely purchased from other areas, but silk is rarely used. The dress has fixed style and plain colors, such as blue, gray and black. Dress designs are various and meaningful and the technology is superb.
