Color Painting is one of Chinese traditional art, in our country with a long history, Its aesthetic view, technique of expression and aesthetic orientation system is started earliest and most mature type of painting in China. Color Painting employs natural mineral color and metal color. At it expresses its unique artistic features in the way of lines and modelling.In modern times, with the development of world economy and culture, people’s pursuit to art aesthetic tends to perfection, but traditional painting materials and techniques cannot meet the aesthetic needs of people in modern society. Material color painting as both ancient and new painting material, once again boards on the stage of history. In fact, today’s Material color painting has nothing different in nature with traditional Chinese material painting, but today the material color is more and more rich, developing a new kind of mineral products, which greatly broadens the scope of the mineral rock color, and increases of technique making the picture richer.Material color has close ties with Chinese traditional Chinese color painting. Their common material base is the use of mineral pigments as the main pigments. The application of material color painting now is an extension of the traditional color painting, which both inherites tradition and keeps its own unique quality. Today’s color painting’s creative ideas, model, color, content, texture performance and techniques is a big change from previous use. Material color originating from ancient Chinese painting material, provides artists with a larger, more broad space for artistic expression, which makes the artistic language express more fully, constructs materials corresponding to the contemporary aesthetic art, colour and texture beauty.In addition, Material color painting also constantly explores innovation, not only from the traditional, also to learn from the foreign culture. What is more important,it forms its own personality and the national aesthetic culture. Modern material color painting pays more attention to the present life, fully reflecting the individuality and unique creation of material color, which makes the Chinese modern material color painting.The third chapter is the keypoint, mainly discussing the material color development and artistic expression in contemporary times, which is divided into four chapters. The sense of material, color design application, the technique of expression and artistic techniques is discussed in the first three chapters, aspects to discuss, and case analysis is given to deeply analyze and express. Some tips of the author’s practice on material color painting is expounded in the forth chapter. Today’s material color painting materials and techniques innovates, on the basis of the traditional techniques, which creates a more modern expression. It is analyzed in four aspect about the material beauty, color, texture beauty freehand brushwork in traditional Chinese beauty, through analyzing material color, summing up its artistic characteristic, finally discussing the pursuit of material color in new aesthetic. Material painting finds a new aesthetic out of the classical aesthetic pattern. The author has shallow understanding of this field, still far from perfect, not clear. The breadth and depth has yet to be further enriched, wishing experts and teachers to point out the mistakes.
