Hakka traditional auspicious patterns refer to the auspicious decorations whichlie in the hakka traditional architecture, costumes, handicrafts, living utensilsafter one thousand years’ of vicissitudes. Existing in18cities and counties in Ganzhou area,Jiangxi province, Hakka traditional auspicious patterns have a close relationship with theformation of the hakka people and are the encyclopedia of hakka culture.As a kind of material carrier which bears the cultural connotation and aestheticcharacteristics of hakka people, Hakka auspicious patterns have various categories,different forms and profound meanings, which worth our while to study, andcontinuously inherit, use and reform.This thesis mainly explains the relationship between auspicious patterns and thehakka people’s life. Firstly, it makes a general introduction to the historicalreasons for the formation of hakka culture system and the relationship betweencultural characteristics of hakka nationality and the characteristics of Chinesetraditional auspicious patterns. Secondly, it classifies the pattenrns accordingto the adornment themes and compares Hakka auspicious patterns with the CentralPlains’ patterns for the following discussion.Through the explaination of the influence of hakka culture connotation to thetraditional auspicious patterns, the thesis moves to the application of traditionalauspicious patterns in hakka people’s life and makes a panoramic analysis in theevolution and characteristics of auspicious patterns in architecture, costumes,arts,crafts and living implements; it also makes a shallow analysis intoauspicious patterns’ development, evolution, and application, hoping to reveal theenlightenment of hakka auspicious patterns to the modern art design.
