First of all,I will introduce lizhi and his theory of chan ,and summarize the State of the Field and the meaning of this thesis. Then I will introduce the causes why he wanted to shut himself off from the world?and?followed?the Laws of chan .To understand the causes , we need to consider the political and academic background in the late Ming Dynasty. After that,I have also to point out his sense to attain Buddhahood ,the complex of fearing to die and suffering ,and the personality of the brave and self adapting by regarding the causes.Next I will Probe into the quiddity of Lizhi's theory of chan ,the kind of his school, and the basic character and position of his thought. In this thesis,I will elaborate his pragmatist thought of starvation, and explain the reasons why he was a Confucian and not a Buddhist.I think his thoughts of Buddhism belongs to the chan and not the Pure Land. And I will try to elaborate his attitude on the religion and precepts .His thoughts of the Tathagata-garbha and the Pragna will be introduced in the thesis. There are many features of his chan's thoughts, such as the sense of tracing the origin, the standard practice, making a man is becoming a Buddha, and no trouble of believing in Buddhism.I will explain the relationship among the thoughts of the chan, the Confucianism and the Pure Land.He married the Confucianism with the chan in his thought, and he used it to resist the canting moralist. He also married the chan with the Pure Land, and the thought of the Pure Land was governed by the chan.At last, contrast between the womb of the tathagata and Lizhi's thought about the chan ,I will explain his thoughts about the first idea, the True Hearted, opposing the explanation, and insisting on one's own opinions in the womb of the tathagata,in the view of the theory of child's mind.
