Huang long Chan Master Zu Xin is an eminent monk of Huang long School of the Rinzai Zen in Northern Song Dynasty,belonging to the twelfth of Nan Yue,who is the dharma heir of Huang Long Hui Nan which has founded the Huang long school.In the early period,in order to practice of Chan and Taoism,he traveled around to visit many renowned monks.After attaining enlightenment,he traveled widely to pay a formal visit to many eminent monks as before.Upon Huang Long Hui Nan’s death,he not only took over Hui Nan’s place to become the abbot of Huang Long,but also promoted Buddhism extensively and made friends with a lot of Confucian scholars as well as Zen monks.In his later life,he resigned to live in seclusion and his behavior that named the Buddhist name after the Buddhist nunnery where he lived was a precedent-setting which was modeled by many Zen monks.During his lifetime,He not merely had many dharma heirs but also made friends widely with many Confucian scholars and Zen monks which had a gross impact on the development of Huang long School even the Rienzi school.Generally speaking,This article is develops from these three parts structurally,analyzing the generated background of Huang long Zu Xin ’s Zen method and his Life stories,giving a interpret of Huang long Zu Xin ’s Zen method main contents,discussing the features and influences of Zu Xin ’s Zen method.Chapter One proceeds from the social and intellectual backgrounds of Huang long Zu Xin’s Zen method to Teasing out his Life stories.Then start with criticizing the Zen temple evils to emphasize Zu Xin’s Zen method is built on his Mind-nature theory and Mainly includes many methods of meditation and gist of how to be a good abbot.the last chapter elaborates both the characters of Zu Xin’s Zen method and the effects that his dharma heirs and teachers as well as friends had on his Zen method.
