Ming Dynasty is the peak time of creating long novels. The appearance of Three Kingdoms, Water Margin, Journey to the West, the Golden Lotus set an aesthetical standard for all kinds of novels. By the late Ming Dynasty, the creation of long novels of different themes nearly entered a bottleneck period. In order to meet the needs of the society, the novelists began to pursue something new and different, and the integration of different themes became a mainstream of the development of long novels. Chan Zhen Yi Shi by Fang Ruhao, the novelist in late Ming and early Qing, was a representative of such kind novel, which merged historical romance, gods and demons, human relationship, heroic spirit, gifted scholars and beautiful ladies together and provided readers a broader social background and a more colorful artistic world. However, the novel was denounced because of its imitating the famous novels too much and lacking of innovation, to some degree, but the author's spirit of daring to challenge and innovate was worth praising.Based on the previous study, the author carries out a textual research on the novel's author, edition and historical figures mentioned in it. By means of studying different versions in Ming Dynasty, Qing Dynasty and modern times, the author can learn about how the novel was handed down in later generation. Having a textual research on the main deeds of the historical figures mentioned in the novel plays a vital role in studying the creation intention and the literal style of the novel.Because of the various themes, scholars have a controversial opinion of the theme of Chan Zhen Yi Shi. With the development of the theory of the type of novels, cross-type novel was put forward and provided us a new theoretical standpoint. It also explained the internal structure of its diversification by analyzing the text. Besides, Fang Ruhao's another novel Chan Zhen Hou Shi, the continual book of Chan Zhen Yi Shi, has a close relationship with it, which cannot be ignored. Characterized as integrated in the transitional period between Ming and Qing Dynasty, the two novels played an important in the novel production during the transition period.
