Self-esteem is always the focus field in which psychology, sociology, anthropology research. Recent years, some scholars began to pay attention to heterogeneity of high self-esteem, They think that there is more than high or low level of self-esteem, also qualitative difference between the high self-esteem people. Their Behavior will exist inconsistencies, even to the contrary. So, psychologists study and describe the high self-esteem(HSE) from different angles, such as stable HSE vs. unstable HSE, genuine HSE vs. defensive HSE, secure HSE vs. fragile HSE, true HSE vs. contigent HSE, high explicit and high implicit HSE vs. high explicit and low implicit HSE and so on.This research attempts to distinguish and divided the heterogeneity of high self-esteem into safety high self-esteem (high implicit self-esteem and high explicit self-esteem are high) and fragile high self-esteem (high explicit self-esteem low implicit self-esteem) from explicit vs. implicit angle. Through the investigation of these two kinds of high self-esteem in self related information cognitive processing preferences and self-handicapping strategy differences, to provide empirical support and partial generalizations for high self-esteem heterogeneity assumptions from multiple angles. This research took the students of grade two and grade three of Jiangsu university of Science and Technology as the research object,105 boys and 124 girls, combined the questionnaire and experimental method, used the SPSS11.5 software to statistical and analysis, the conclusion is as follows:First:Fragile HSE (high explicit and high implicit) existed no preference on self related information of cognitive processing, secure HSE (high explicit and low implicit) appeared preferences on negative information cognitive processing.Second:In self-handicapping level, fragile HSE (high explicit and low implicit) were higher than secure HSE (high explicit and high implicit), in another words, fragile HSE adopted more self-handicapping strategies than secure HSE.
