The issue of self- esteem and self- confidence has been the concern of the college students’ mental health for many years. The individuals possessing high self-esteem are heterogeneous,and the high level of implicit self-esteem is used to distinguish the heterogeneity of high selfesteem. Self- obstruction phenomenon existing among college students bring a negative effect on their academic achievement and success. This paper is going to discuss the relationship among implicit self-esteem, self-confidence and self handicapping in college students with high self-esteem and expects that the results can provide some reference for the future research, and applied to the educational practice, to reduce their self handicapping level and develop a sense of self value of rational coping style and reasonable safety.A total of 312 undergraduate students in Qufu Normal University are invited to complete the Rosenberg self-esteem scale and 184 students with high self-esteem are selected to complete the implicit self-esteem association test, test of self-confidence and self handicapping scale and163 effective subjects were got eventually. The collected data were analyzed and processed to obtain the results as follows:(1)The college students with high self-esteem possess comparatively higher level of selfconfidence and show certain phenomenon of self-handicapping.( 2) There are significant differences in self-handicapping phenomenon among college students with high self-esteem. The handicapping level of boys are higher than that of girls while gender differences in the implicit self-esteem and self-confidence is not significant.(3)There is no significant grade difference in self-confidence, implicit self-esteem and self-handicapping among college students with high self-esteem.(4)Significant differences do exist among high self-esteem college students with different levels of implicit self-esteem. Individuals with high explicit high implicit self-esteem show higher levels of self-confidence and lower level of self handicap. Individuals with high explicit low implicit self-esteem with lower level of self-confidence and high level of self-handicapping.(5)Among college students with high self-esteem, self-confidence and self-handicapping are in significant negative correlation, implicit self-esteem and self handicap are in significant negative correlation; self-confidence and implicit self-esteem are in significant positive correlation.( 6) Among high-esteem individuals, self-confidence can be used to predict selfhandicapping in the negative direction, accounting for 11.8% of self-handicapping. Implicit selfesteem can be used to predict self-handicapping, accounting for 7.2% of self-handicapping.(7)Among high-esteem college students, implicit self-esteem plays an intermediary role between self-confidence and self-handicapping.
