Xu zhimo accepted the traditional Chinese culture even from his childhood,after traveling to British and America,he became quite familiar to western culture. Xu zhimo's rich life experience provided him insight to choose and criticize different Western cultures,and integrate them with traditional Chinese culture..Xu zhimo's poems mix Western cultures and Western cultures,which determines his unique position in cross-cultural research.This paper intends to start with the analysis of Xu's poems,discuss the Source of the traditional Chinese culture and Western Cultural in his writing.,and interpretate the abundant cultural intension of Xu's poetic works This paper is generally divided into three parts.The first part intends to analyze the cultural background of Xu's poems,Including the Chinese cultural background and the Western cultural background. The Chinese cultural background includes the nobility and gentry of the family background, early education,and the traditional cultural background of the May Fourth era. The Western cultural background.includes XU's study life in the United States and Cambridge University and his two European tours.Based on the first part,the second part will describes the inheritance and development of traditional Chinese culture in Xu's works.The discussion will around the poetry theme, mood and other aspects of artistic expression.The third part will analyze Xu Zhimo'absorption and reference of Western culture.Xu's poems will be divided into two periods and be described from two aspects.Firstly,this paper will analyze the Influence of Western Romanticism in Xu's early poems by comparing Xu's poetry with the poems of Byron, Shelley, Keats and Wordsworth's.Secondly,this paper will discuss Xu's poetic ideas and expression by analyzing the Influence of Hardy, Oscar Wilde and Baudelaire,and analyze the latter part of Xu's poems'turning to Modernism.Finaly,By studying XU'poems in the background of Chinese and Western cultures,this paper will affirm his tremendous contributions to push the Chinese morden poetry forward.
