China is a country of poetry, and Tang poetry is the brightest pearl which stands forthe highest achievement in the history of classic poetry. As a fundamental element ofpoetry, poetic imagery is the soul and life of poetry. The process of composing poetry is aprocess in which the poet searches for objective things as image and constructs imagery soas to express their subjective feelings vividly. Therefore, the study of poetry images isconcerned and emphasized by scholars. The arrangement of images in Tang FrontierFortress (TFF) poetry is unique. Thus, the imagery in TFF poetry becomes the main studyobjects of many scholars. At present, domestic scholars study the imagery in TFF poetryfrom the perspective of rhetoric, literature, aesthetics and translation, but scholars seldomstudy it from aspect of cognition, so we try to study the imagery in TFF poetry in terms ofcognition.Based on this, this paper takes the TFF poetry as the object of the research, focusingon the images in the Frontier Fortress (FF) poetry, in view of the limited space, finds threetypical images according to the occurrence of frequency from the selected40Tang poems. This thesis tries to apply the theoretical framework with four spaces of the CIT to interpretthe process of meaning construction by analyzing the emotional connotation of images inTFF poetry. We hope that this thesis can help us understand the relevant mental activitieswhen appreciating TFF poetry and provide theoretical and practical foundation for abstractcognitive activities.
