Qochu Uyghur literature holds an important place not only in Uyghur classic literature, but in the literary history of all the Turkic peoples. In this era, all literary genres were highly developed, with particular advances made in Uyghur translated literature. Many valuable documents and other cultural heirlooms were produced; this paper will focus mostly on four works considered among the best prose works of that era: Mahasatwi Becomes Tiger Bait, Lord Chastani, A Story of Two Princes, and The Carpenter and the Painter. The present paper consists of three main parts, namely the forward, the main text, and the conclusion. The main body of the text itself consists of three parts. The forward provides a general introduction to Qochu Uyghur literature, and also considers some of the factors behind the emergence of these immortal literary works in Qochu during that era. Aside from that, an explanation will be provided for the selection of this topic, the current state of research, the object and scope of the research, the research methods, and a number of other issues. The first section of the main text will provide a brief introduction to Qochu Uyghur literature's prose works, and their content—including the themes of bravery, knowledge, wisdom, morality, and religion—will be analyzed from a number of different angles. The main text's second section will thoroughly examine the thematic content of the four stories which are the object of this research, the ways in which their structure brings dramatic struggles to their high point, their fable-like linear narration style, their narrative strategy of portraying events through the rich and unique feelings and thoughts of the story's characters, and the artistic choices which enhance the literary quality of the works. Various unique characteristics of Qochu-era literature will be examined. In the text's third section, a discussion will be carried out on the continuation in later Uyghur literature of various characteristics of Qochu Uyghur literature's prose style, as well as of the moral ideals expressed in those Qochu texts. The conclusion will make some general points about characteristics of these representative works of Qochu Uyghur literature, before putting forward some thoughts about its place in Uyghur literary history.
