Social desirability responding is the most prominent response bias in psychological measurement, and it poses a great threat to self-report questionnaire's validity. Recognition and measurement social desirability responding has an important practical significance in improving the accuracy of the results of self-report data. With the advances in measurement technology, many scholars have developed variable measurement tools to assess social desirability. For example, Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale(MCSDS), which has been one of most popular social desirability scales in the world. MCSDS has been used extensively in psychology and other fields since it was developmented. Lacking of an effective standard measurement tool for domestic social desirability studies, we revised the MCSDS. The present study based on the reference of domestic and foreign social desirability researches. College students sample was selected for this study. Then, we discussed the impact of college students'demographic profiles on social desirability.First, the present study translate English Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale into Chinese version, on the basis of literature review, open investigation, expert evaluation. Second, we used the Rasch model to analyze the terms of the initial questionnaire. Based on the analysis results, we added new items into the scale and constructed a new one. Then, we calibrated the new scale with Rasch model and examined differential item functioning(DIF). And we got the Chinese version of Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale(MCSDS-CR). Finally, we used the Chinese College Student Personality Scale as the criterion scale to examine the Criterion Validity of MCSDS-CR. And we investigated the impact of gender, age, grade, school category and professional direction on the level of collage students' social desirability. The main results of this study:(1) Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale (MCSDS) is a single-dimensional scale, and it is adequate to measure social desirability.(2) The revised Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale(MCSDS-CR) is a single-dimensional scale, and it has good reliability and validity. The MCSDS-CR scale is adequate for collage students and it can measure Chinese collage students' social desirability effectively.(3) Social desirability has a high correlation with the Chinese College Student Personality Scale.(4) College students' social desirability has significant differences in school category and major direction. The social desirability of the students of liberal art were significantly higher than that of science and engineering students.
