The Research Of Ning Ying's Films

Ning Ying, female, born in Shaanxi in 1959, was admitted to the Beijing Film Academy in 1978, got public funds in 1981,obtaining a scholarship in Italy. In1987, she graduated from the Experimental Movie Center of Rome, the same year, the guidance in the Lurgi Bertone's film<The Last Emperor> as the deputy director. Back to China in 1988, she became the Beijing Film Studio director. Since2008, she joined the Central Academy Department of Fine Arts Urban Design Department, became the instructor of Film and Video Art Department. But her image style and development path is totally different from "the Fifth generation" of Chinese movies.After finishing study in Italy;she came back to her motherland and started her career life as a director. She didn't choose the national allegory, macro reflection or the aesthetic images that "the Fifth Generation" had set up, on the contrary, she began to screen the city of Beijing. She offered us another chance of images with her documentary style. From 1991 to 2000, she screened "Beijing Trilogy"(<For Fun>,<On The Beat>,<I love Beijing>), which not only focus on the Beijing city but also keep centralized and systemic memories for changing China. In addition, she captured the images of unique characters during the changing course of Beijing city. Including the grandpa generation (<For Fun>), father generation (<On The Beat>), and the young generation. The movie is full of her melancholy on the loss of tradition and reflection on modernity.Unsatisfactory with the fake and pale female images on mass media, she screened the film of<Perpetual Motion>.With the hope to show the female character which she agree with more, she shows their love and pain, past and present, their inner perpetual motion.After the hustle and the bustle, it is clearly shown that the female character is rarely seen in Asian movies, the women who experienced political instability also reflect the changes of time in China.But when we are surprised by her experimental spirit and courage, she suddenly changed. Just in one year, she screened three movies,<The Double Life>which comedy that the internet star Sister Furong also participates in;<4k Raw>which reflects the emotional life of Middle class, and<The kong Fu Man> which is invested by Keanu Reeves.<the double life>has released already,<4k Raw> is selected to be participated in Venice Film Festival in 2010, the< Kong Fu man> is also at its post-production stage. Although NingYing insisted that the movie is product of the environment at present, it can still be found that her unique style and focus on current life.<The Double Life> is the first movie on mental patient subject, with the purpose to reflect the society issues by mental hospital.No matter how the subjects change, the focus point of NingYing is always on the changing society, she consistently,carefully record,explore and ponder.This article is divided into four parts to research NingYing's films comprehensively and systematically, in addition to make a clear view on her career life and artistic point. In the first chapter, we mainly focus on her career life as a director, and try to figure out how her film ideal and artistic styles take shape. In the second chapter, we try to research the theme aspect of NingYing's films through the reflections of modernity, the view of female and the relationship between individuals and group. In the third chapter, it is aimed to analyze the use of film language which includes shot and narrative and how they express the theme of films, also,we try to evaluate her commercial movie.Through the analysis of her career life and films, we are looking forward to her future piece works.
