A Study Of Dai Wangshu's Poetry Translation

As a great poet in Chinese modern literature, Dai Wangshu is also an eminent poetry translator, who has increasingly received recognitions from scholars for his achievements in poetry translation. However the present researches regard his translation activities as a subordination to his poetry writing activities, his translation practices, poetics thoughts and translation styles are far lack of concern.This thesis tries to make a systematical study on Dai Wangshu's poetry translations.The study begins with the investigation of Dai Wangshu's poetry translation works of different periods, analyzing their characteristics, and illustrating his translation theoretical thoughts, strategies and techniques. In the meanwhile, the thesis pays special attention to his translations of French symbolism poetry, super-realism poetry, which have exerted great influences on Dai Wangshu's own poetry writing activities. Through close-reading his translation works, comparing them with other versions, Dai Wangshu's unique translation styles of poetry have been clarified. His poetry translations have made up a self-sufficient text world, in which translation is another kind of literary creation.Dai Wangshu has promoted the art of modern Chinese poetry by translating, he has made a great contribution to the cross-cultural communication between China and western world with his poetry translations.
