The significance of this research:The Book of Songs is a classical work of the Chinese Confucian School and the most important one of the Five Classics, which is valuable to the study of ancient society, history and culture. Takezoe Koko's Collected Commentaries on the Mao Tradition of the Poetry Classic is an indispensible opus in the history of Japanese study on The Book of Songs. As for Takezoe Koko's academic position, the paper refers to the comments of Chinese and Japanese scholars of his period who have a visiting acquaintance with him and his writings, and studies from the perspective of the background, against which Takezoe Koko wrote the book. The highlight of this thesis is that it starts initial study of this important work--- Collected Commentaries on the Mao Tradition of the Poetry Classic from the view of Takezoe Koko's academic background due to different values held by two countries and the academic status of Collected Commentaries on the Mao Tradition of the Poetry Classic, one of the most important work in his life-----the Three Collected Commentaries.Significance:Collected Commentaries on the Mao Tradition of the Poetry Classic is an exegesis of The Book of Songs, which includes classics studies on The Book of Songs mainly written by Qing scholars, and some by scholars from Han Dynasty and Wei Dynasty to Qing Dynasty, and opus written by Japanese sinologists, like Nikkei Semitic and Kamei Yakut. Collected Commentaries on the Mao Tradition of the Poetry Classic is a unique book based on previous studies and detailed and strict research. It exerts great efforts especially on the critical interpretation of ancient texts and the institutions on the etiquettes and rituals. Therefore, Collected Commentaries on the Mao Tradition of the Poetry Classic occupies an important position in the history of Japanese study on the Book of Songs. However, on this aspect, there are few researches in China. Thus I write this paper in the hope of changing the current situation. Through the study of Takezoe Koko's contact with the people of Qing Dynasty and the background of Collected Commentaries on the Mao Tradition of the Poetry Classic, the paper lays emphasis on exploring the values embodied in Takezoe Koko's classical work Collected Commentaries on the Mao Tradition of the Poetry Classic, which is influenced by the style of study of the two countries.(2) An overview on the research of Collected Commentaries on the Mao Tradition of the Poetry ClassicCollected Commentaries on the Mao Tradition of the Poetry Classic is one of Takezoe Koko's classical works---the Three Collected Commentaries. Up till the present moment, there is seldom special documentation but a few simple introductions in the Japanese books on the Book of Songs. The first chapter is mainly about Takezoe KoKo's academic activities, such as Takezoe KoKo's communication with Chinese and Japanese scholars as well as their comments on him. It also involves Takezoe KoKo's students'activities and their influence on later generations. This thesis inquires into his status in academia from the view of some references of his writing. The second chapter focuses on the study of the background of Collected Commentaries on the Mao Tradition of the Poetry Classic, one of his masterpieces--- "Three Collected Commentaries" and this thesis make the readers understand the details of original writing from the aspect of society,region, and individual or the system of education.The last chapter explores the the Mao Tradition of the Poetry Classic from the point of the accomplishment of those precedent examples and bibiliography. At the same time, we dig out the book from the composition of the book of songs.And it makes the comparison with Zhu Xi's Shi Ji Zhuan and Chen Huan's Shi Mao Shi Zhuan Shu. By this process we can learn more about his impact on academia, and the different mindset between Chinese and Japanese. Through the above studies, this thesis can probe probes into the significance of Takezoe Koko' in academia, and remedies the relevant research on him and his works.
