Thomas Hardy is an outstanding English novelist and poet in 19th century, he divided his novel as three part:"Romance and Fantasy","novel character and environment" and "smart and experience novel", Most important of which is "character and the environment" novels. In this class novels, Hardy attaches great importance to the description of the natural environment, nature is devoted a great deal of enthusiasm and support, he used a thick ink tracing the nature and the people who live there and showed the relationships between people and nature in the Wessex region, the nature is the eternal theme in his creation.Hardy's novels selected a large number of natural imagery to express the charm of nature, nature in his works are very individual, in the description, it also reflects the relationship of the human and nature, reflecting Hardy's concepts in nature. Hardy's view of man and nature is subject to the influence of Western traditional culture, Western culture has a profound effect for Hardy, and Hardy's concepts of man and nature still have a positive and practical significance for today's society.This paper is divided into four chapters:in the first chapter it is selected Hardy's descriptions of the natural image, combing the descriptions systematically as:"Astronomy Class", "Geography Class", "animal class" and "plant class", and analyzing the characteristics of nature. In the second chapter, it analyzes the relations between "man and nature", in the novels, Hardy conveys us that man and nature are indispensable, and not human-centered; he expression that nature is the criteria for judging man, the fate of man and nature were together. The third chapter discusses Hardy's concepts of Nature and the reason of it forms. The last chapter analyzes the western culture's influences with hardy's concepts of man and nature, and the significance for today's society.In short, Hardy's concepts of the Man and Nature has unique characteristic, according to analyze characteristics of the natural imagery, can help us to pry out the relationship between man and nature in the fictions, and get hardy's view of nature. The natural view's formation have hardy own and the times various causes, these ideas are influence of Western culture, and the thought of Hardy's views of human and nature still has reality reference in our social.
