In china, The verbal rap of"Gu"had a long history. The"Gu"either the Pre-qin palace "Gu" musicians or the later folk "Gu", rely on the verbal rap for a living. The verbal rap has a continuous history and its origin is "Gu". Even today in China, "Gu" could be accounted here and there. The different is that now they are called the people's artists or Drum-singers, who are always roaming about and have a hard life. These Drum-singers inherit from"Gu"and continue the Chinese rap literature by practice performance and practice creation. From a historical perspective, the Drum-singers had made great contribution to every aspects of Chinese traditional culture. So to trace the history of Drum-singers is significant and have a very important to search the origin of Chinese balled literati on.The main theme of this thesis is to analyses the word"Gu"from varies perspectives of philology, literature, history and etc. To search the origin of Chinese tambourines literature, then to draw a complete conclusion:the Pre-Qin "Gu" equivalent with nowadays Drum-singers and it is in the Pre-Qin dynasty that the Quyi and Guci emerged. At the Pre-qin, "Gu" was the important musicians who concerning with the blind, the worship activities, and the drum, "Gu" was very important in the worship events and the information communication.The thesis is divided into four parts:the preface summaries the historical context of Guci's development; the chapter 1 to analyses the word "Gu" from varies perspectives of philology, literature, history and etc. and to draw a conclusion that"Gu"is the Pre-qin palace musician and the introducer of Guci; the chapter 2 is on the "Tuogu", the author points out that the "Tuogu" is the instrument of"Gu"; the chapter 3 is comprehensive study on the Xun tzu's Chengxiang Librotto which is the oldest Guci work:the chapter 4 is about"'Gu'are also the historians", the core the impact of"Gu"in China' epic. The analysis is based on the empirical data, namely ancient texts, ancient ritual culture and archaeological materials. The analysis would be some academic valuable.
