Romaticism, as a kind of trend of social thought, gradually thrived from the end of 18th century or the beginning of 19th century with the influence of Western social cultural development. Romatical music was one of importantin musical styles after classical music and witnessed the naissance of numerous famous musicians. Robert Schumann(1810-1856) was a representative figure within early development of Western Romatical music. As a composer, critic and musician, Robert Schumann played a consequential role in the history of Werstern Romatical music's development because of his characteristics of romatical music style, progessive ideas and thoughts and so on. He composed a great number of excellent works and most were on piano works, such as the Abegue Variation, his first piano work.The Abegue Variation was famous for its pleasant melody, lush harmony, multi-tone texture,pure tone, flexible speed, etc. This study was on the Abegue Variation and tried to search for Schumann-specific musical characteristics via the analysis of the work and introduce the law of unity of opposites into the study of Schumann's music works in order to gain better playing of his works in practice.This paper was individed into four parts. First, the social and cultural background of creation and its impact on the composers are introduced. Second, we explored the road of music growth of Schumann from his dual characteristics, predominant musical talent, progressive musical thoughts etc. Third, we analyzed his musical lingustic characteristics in the Abegue Variation.Fourth, our attention was attracted to the impact of law of unity of opposites in philosophical terms on his piano works'linguistic characteristics. At last, this present study concluded realistic implication of his piano works to better understand his works'art implications and social values.
