As one of the most famous contemporary authors in Japan, he is proficient in observing and depicting subtle stuff with a profound intension. He got recognition in many areas for a variety of opuses such as novels, essays, literary criticisms, etc. Among them, the novels deserve to be the best representative of his core values. This paper is aimed at investigating the religious belief embedded in the novels of Shusaku Endo, a Catholic, so as to better understand the internal spirit of the masterpiece. The whole paper consists of three chapters and they study Shusaku Endo from a modern perspective, a spiritual perspective and a"rebel"perspective respectively. It will also extend to other related areas such as Psychology, Sociology and Religious Theory, etc. to better clarify the origin, development, confirmation and demonstration of Shusaku Endo's humanistic consciousness and his unique religious belief. |
