Metrical Study On The Adverbs Of Degree In Dream Of Red Mansions

Dream of Red Mansions is an important literature of modern period and a sign of changing in modern Chinese language.It provides important information for studying the basic usage of Chinese function words during the middle of the 18th century.It is an important corpus of studying Chinese and provides the modern Chinese language derelopment for the study of Chinese history. It is of great hiatorical value and linguistic value.The first eighty chapters of Dream of Red Mansions was written by Cao Xueqin in the eighteenth century and the after forty chapters was written by Gao E. This thesis studies the adverbs of degree in the novel of eighth chapters. In the thesis, there are 65 adverbs of degree through exhaustive investigation. We choose 65 adverbs of degree as the object of study. According to the different levels, we classified them into six groups, namely, GuoDu, JiZhi, Zui, Hen, Geng and Wei. It specific analyzes the frequency of using, the ability of combination, the function of syntax.The thesis uses the methods of the metrical study, quantitative analysis and synchronic study with diachronic study, and illuminate with the method by the list in order to fully show the general appearance of the conjunction in the novel.
