Song dynasty is the most flourishing period for the development of traditional Chinese realistic painting. It is also a very important period for the history of Chinese painting. Among the Chinese emperors, Zhao Jie, who was well versed in art creation, is undoubtedly the most important person to promote the art of painting. Without the full support of Zhao Jie, the "vision and body" style would not have been born. The glory of the grand branch of body painting would not have been as impressive. With the power he posses as the most respected person as well as his rich scholarly judgment of beauty, Zhao Jie not only further developed the vision and body painting from the achievements of the forefathers, reaching the peak of eastern realism, but also made unparallel contribution to the transition from vision and body painting to Literati painting during this sensitive period. His paintings not only strive for the delicate precision of nature using realistic methods, but also emphasize subjective inner spiritual directions, admire and incorporate other factors such as respect of life and cultivation of culture. Using his unique understanding and awareness of pen, ink and life, he converted the life force of nature to the life force of art. His work is full of artistic conception of poetry that kept people coming back. A series of his outstanding work, including < Zuikaku tujuan >, <Hibiscus Golden Pheasant>, <Wild goose at the Willow buds cottage>, etc., reflected humanistic spirit that is emphasized in traditional Chinese realistic painting. His work exhibited the important characteristics of Chinese painting and the essence of traditional Chinese culture. Under the cultural influence of "Talk and laugh of great scholars, come and go without commoners", these paintings not only brings to people the elegant aesthetic pleasure. But more importantly, they reveal the noble humanistic feelings underlined by "A simple cottage gives me sweet fragrant". The essence and soul of his work fully immersed with his deep learning and cultivation as well as his high standard of personal charm. They fully showcase the humanistic spirit and aesthetic ideal of ancient Chinese scholars, and also created unconventionally graceful style of Literati painting. It is also the origin of the spirit of Literati painting that crosses history and time.
