After the First World War, the US moved toward the world from the Americas and became a great nation that couldn't be ingnored internationally. When the victorious nations held Paris Peace Conference to construct the new international order in 1919, the US attempted to participate in and dominate the reconstruction of the postwar new international order by the equal status with European nations-namely, Britain and France, and proposed the"14 principles"which aimed at dealing with international affairs.Besides, the U.S. also proposed to establish an international organization"the League of Nations"that could maintain the new international order. However, the U.S. had not realized its wish, because the"14 principles"was not accepted completely by the Paris Peace Conference. Moreover, though"the League of Nations"was set up, the nation dominating it was not the U.S., but was Britain and France. The U.S. was repelled the outside of dominating the postwar international order. Finally, the U.S. chose to refuse to sign its name in Versailles Peace treaty and refused to participate the policy of League of Nations. The U.S. wasn't able to obtain the anticipated benefit in the European continent. Therefore then the U.S. turned to pay attention to Far East and the Pacific region. The US attempted to hold the Washington conference and establish a new international order of the Far East and the Pacific region which was led by the U.S.. The U.S. continued to carry out"the open door policy"in the Far East and the Pacific region, especially in China, in order to expand the trade in China. But this benefit goal of the U.S. conflicted with the big powers which tried to monopolize China such as Japan and so on. Therefore, U.S.'s another benefit goal in the Far East became to oppose Japan monopolized China and seek for equal commercial interest in China with big powers such as Japan and so on.Around the Washington conference from 1921 to 1922, the emphasis of the U.S. seeking for its national interest in the Far East was China. The U.S. carried out a series of strategies and means to guarantee the realization of its interest in China, regardless of political, economic and military aspects. While competed with Japan, disintegrated the UK and Japan Union and weakened the interest of Britain and Japan in China., the U.S.'s power successfully kept a foothold in China, realized"the open door and sharing the interests"of the big powers in China and formed the foundation for the object of the U.S. to establish a new order which was dominated by the U.S. in the Far East. This paper takes the dialectical materialism and historical materialism as the basic guiding principle, makes use of the research technique which unifies the history and the international politics, fully uses the documentary materials and various of online sources, takes the interest of the U.S, seeking for in China and the practice of the"Open Door"policy as a research perspective, investigate it under the background that the big powers especially Japan sought for its interest in the Far East and the Pacific region and competed with the U.S., tries to study deeply the interest the U.S. sought for in China and the state that the U.S. conducted the"Open Door"policy, and reveals the background , content ,characteristic and effects of the policy that the U.S. made for its interest in China in the course of the U.S. strived for establishing an international order in the Far East and the Pacific region around the Washington conference.
