The publication of cathay translated by Ezra Pound in 1915 substantially promoted the development of the British and American Modern poetry. The whole translation assembly have great influence on the British and American modern poetry. Ezra Pound was excited for the chinese language skills and visual images during the course of analysis and translation of Chinese classical poems. In order to make the English poems have the forms of chinese poetry, he deviated from English grammar rules, omitted the sentence elements, imitated the chinese classical language feature consciously, which made the whole collection full of exotic. The alterity of the whole collection of cathay is reflected primarily by the fusion of poetics and translation theory of Ezra Pound, who advocated the simple, straightforward language without any description, the preacher or lyric on poetics. In theory, Ezra Pound advocated the strategy of foreignization to preserve the cultural expression of the chinese classical poems, which preserved the alterity of the whole collection of cathay through introducing classical chinese poetry features of expression, overlapping with imagery and images, and grammatical cut, nouns paralleling, which add new elements to the British and American modern poetry. Pound also used the domanation of translation, absorption and compensation of the structure, allusions, and work style to balance the target text and source text, which advocated by George Stener. The marriage of hermeneutics and translatology adds the colors of philosophy to the translatology. Translators on translation view under the modern hermeneutics context are no longer simple translators, but the readers as well as the authors. The whole collection of cathay is not quite equal to the chinese classical poetry in form, content, rhythm, for which we can say the whole collection cathay is a creative translation. The strategy of creative interpretation breaks and challenges the "faithful" principle in translation.
