On Huang Nansen's Philosophical Theory Of Culture

As a Chinese famous contemporary Marxist philosophers and philosophical historians, Mr. Huang was not only committed to the Marxist philosophy research but also made his mind turned to the cultural research by virtue of his academic experience and unique life inspiration. Moreover, he has put forward distinctive cultural views and explored Socialist culture with Chinese characteristics.Ever since Mr. Huang's childhood, he has been affected by Chinese and Western culture. After he grew up, he chose Marxist philosophy as his lifelong career. Experiencing the most profound change in the 20th Century and seeing the conflict and merger of culture, he constructed the Cultural Philosophy whose essence is Marxist philosophy. In his Cultural Philosophy thinking, he has tried to realize the goal of integrating Marxism's theory and culture field. Besides, his theory also developed and enriched the scientific system of Marxist Philosophy. Mr. Huang deeply analyzed the relationship between culture,politics and economics and defined culture as "human spiritual activities and products", then divided culture extension into 12 kinds cultural phenomenon. Under the guidance of historical materialism, he distinguished five cultural types as well as the position of the culture. Furthermore, he compared Chinese with the West. Considering modern society, Mr. Huang devoted himself to modernize Chinese culture. He held the view that traditional Chinese culture as a whole had become history with its political and economic collapsing. Therefore, the modernization of Chinese culture is the sole modernization of modern Chinese culture, i.e., developing a socialist culture with distinctive Chinese characteristics. With regard to advance culture construction, Mr. Huang thinks that it should be guided by Marxism, bases on the practice of socialist culture construction, integrates the best Parts of Chinese culture and western culture, and develops socialist culture with Chinese characteristics.The essence of his culture outlook is Cultural Comprehension and Innovation. Huang Nansen's culture outlook can provide new growing points for the study of Cultural Philosophy, and it also can offer references for the development of socialist culture with Chinese characteristics. However, due to confine of times, it has some deficiencies to some extent. For this reason, we should learn the reasonable core of his thought carefully and objectively.
