Intensive English Word Functional Analysis

Intensification is a means of indexing the speaker's perspective, which is reflected via the use of intensifiers. During the verbal communication, the speaker's view, attitude, feelings, etc. belong to the scope of subjectivity. From the perspective of philosophy of language, the focus of language is human. One can not study language without considering human. When a conversation occurs, one can achieve the goal only if he or she understands the subjective meaning of the conceptualizer. In the background of subjectivity and subjectification in Cognitive Language, intensifiers relate to speakers'emotion so they bear inherent subjectivity. Because of this, intensifiers become one breach for studies on subjectivity and subjectification of language.This paper is centred on English intensifiers. It attempts to study its'linguistic and pragmatic development. Through analyzing some particular intensifiers, the focus lies on the way how the conceptualizer, as an observer or as an experiencer, construes a situation.
