Objective:To explore the applicability of Chinese Psychological CapitalQuestionnaire-Revised(PCQ-R) in nurses and describe basic conditions of psychologicalcapital in nurses. To investigate the relationship of engagement and burnout with theirpsychological capital in two measurements. Try to develop their psychological capitaland to assess the training effectiveness. Methods: Totally, 1392 nurses in the four comprehensive hospitals of Hangzhouand Xi'an cities have been sampled and surveyed through cross-sectional and longitudinalquestionnaires surveys. On the basis of literature review,we build and validate thehypothetical model by using statistical analysis method with SPSS.We revise thePsychological Capital Questionnaire and analyze the reliability and validity(study 1),describe basic conditions and diversity of psychological capital in nurses on demographicvariables(study 2), investigate the relationship of engagement and burnout with theirpsychological capital in two measurements(study 3) and develop psychological capital innurses through the trainings(study 4).Results:①The revision result: The final PCQ-R concludes 12 items. PCQ-R hadgood internal reliabillity (the Cronbachαcoefficients ranged from 0.780 to 0.914). Thetest-retest reliability was 0.806(P <0.01). There was significant correlation betweenresults of PCQ-R and turnover intention(-0.188~-0.480). The indexes of confirmatoryfactor analysis were as follows:χ2/df(1.805),NFI(0.929),RFI(0.884),IFI(0.967),TLI(0.945),CFI(0.966),RMSEA (0.063).②Descriptive results:The psychologicalcapital score of nurses that were investigated is above the medium range . Besides, thereare significant difference of psychological capital on different age groups, differentworking age groups, different marital status, different educational levels and differentpositions.③Correlation analysis: There are significant relationship amongengagement ,burnout and their psychological capital in two measurements except the relationship between personal job-related efficacy(time2) and emotional exhaustion(time1). The hypothetical model is partly validated. To be more precise, psychologicalcapital(time2) together with psychological capital(time1), as a intermediate variable, canforecast emotional exhaustion(time2) . But psychological capital(time1) can not forecastengagement, cynicism and personal job-related efficacy a month later, when consideringpsychological capital(time2).④Training effectiveness: After trainings ,the nurses(n=25)have better results in total psychological capital(t=2.49, ES=0.33) and four dimensions, one of which have significant difference(resiliency ,t=2.57 ,ES=0.41). While,at the sametime interval (one month) , large sample without training shows a downward trend.ConclusionsConclusions:①PCQ-R has satisfying reliability and validity; It's a promisingassessment tool to evaluate psychological capital of Chinese nurses in future research.②The nurses who are investigated have a satisfying basic condition. Nurse's psychologicalcapital should be focused on , especially clinical nurses with secondary age group(25-29year old). Besides, two dimensions, hope and resilience, should be paid more attention to,particularly those with Bachelor's degree.③Nurse psychological capital exerted asignificant influence on emotional exhaustion of next month. It was also found thatcontinuous trainings are necessary.④The training based on solution-focused model candevelop psychological capital in nurses effectively.
