The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between stress and mental health. Time stress is the independent variable, and mental health is the dependent variable. The Humor Style Questionnaire (HSQ) was used to test the mediating effect of individual's humor style between stress and the dependent variables (anxiety, self-respect and life orientation). The Coping Humor Scale(CHS) was used to test the mediating effect of individual's coping humor between stress and the dependent variables (anxiety, self-respect and life orientation).The Sense of Humor Questionnaire was used to test the moderating effect of individual's sense of humor between stress and humor styles. The Sense of Humor Questionnaire was also used to test the moderating effect of individual's sense of humor between stress and coping500 participants took part in this study and they were all high school students and college students. The high school students came from:the attached middle school of Northwest Polytechniacal University, the attached middle school of Xidian University, Lintong high school and Huaqing high school. The college students came from Shaanxi Normal University. There were 469 valid questionnaires, and SPSS 13.0 was used for the statistical analysis.The results of this study are as follows:1,Stress affected mental health. Specifically, the more stress, the anxiouser; the more stress, the lower the life orientation.2,Humor style mediated the relationship between stress and mental health..3,Coping humor mediated the relationship between stress and mental health.4,Sense of humor moderated the relationship between stress and humor style. 5,Sense of humor didn't moderate the relationship between stress and coping humor.The results of this paper not only provided a direct empirical support for the research in humor, but also had great illumination to the future researches in this field.
