Research On The Application Of Chinese Red In Modern Costume Design

As a symbol of China in the world, "Chinese Red" has already been recognized, not only as a color but with the in-depth understanding of the culture, and accepted by people all over the world ever since the Beijing Olympics and Shanghai World Exposition. In order to integrate itself to the international domain and have more people understanding China, we should promote Chinese culture throughout the world, not just by showing our traditional culture rigidly, but demonstrating it in a brand new fashion by combining it with modern culture. Hence, the application of Chinese Red should, above all, inherit its traditional meaning and develop with creativity on the basis of traditional philosophy. Secondly, enthusiasm and nobility can add more excellence to the emotions. Last but not least, along with demonstration of our oriental artistic charm, we should pay more attention to the market, the market feedback and its economic effect to be exact.The traditional Chinese elements and Chinese style, quite hot nowadays, has attracted great attention from the westerners in the international fashion industry with its strong Chinese characteristics. Under generations of inheritance, consolidation, intensification and abandonment, Chinese Red has already become the essence of Chinese emotions as well as a very important status symbol for the Chinese People. Therefore, modern costume design should integrate more national traditional costume culture elements, maintain the unique national characteristics, and inherit and carry forward our national essence along with getting closer to the international standards.In this spirit, this paper attempts to illustrate the characteristics of the Chinese Red as a color, analyze its great charm, and introduce the significance of the combination of Chinese Red and modern costume design with much emphasis on the application skills of Chinese Red in modern costume design. Hopefully, it can be of certain assistance in the interpretation of costume design with national characteristics as well as the innovation of traditional costume culture in China later on.
