With the linguistic enrichment from the updated science, English for Science and Technology has attracted many researchers' attention. As a linguistic representation of a special lexical group in EST--semi-technical word, which has distinctive features on its own compared with general English words and words in other registers has become a problematic issue both for EST learning and teaching. This paper mainly focuses on the semantic meaning and collocational pattern of this particular lexical group. This paper adopts the corpus-based approach to conduct the investigation of semi-technical words in EST via the self-built corpus DHEST. By the corpus software WordSmith4.0. the writer firstly identified four subjects in the study. Focused on the samples, the writer examined the dispersion plot, MI value as well as the 2-immediate-word collocation of the node. After the detailed exploration, the writer has found some distinctive features of semi-technical words' lexical, meaning and their collocational pattern in EST by the qualitative and quantitative analysis.Through tentative analyzing, computing and evaluating, the study not only summarizes the features of semi-technical words but also concluded difficulties for learning and teaching. And what's more, the writer has put forward the methods to master the semi-technical words in EST. Though it is a thorny lexical group in EST, there are still rules and methods to interpret and to study this special lexical category.
