In China's art environment today, the contemporary art has its specific meaning. And Chinese contemporary artists have always been impressed with personality and independence by advance guard way of art express. However, with the transitions in times and institution environment, the identity and image of has been changing at the same time. Since the1990s, the high price of works has became one of the most noteworthy features of Chinese contemporary artists because of their too close relationship with art market, which also deprived the diversity of the image of Chinese contemporary artists. But in fact, the homogenization and simplification in image can not reflect the whole appearance of Chinese contemporary artists today, the consciousness of identity construction they exert was very complex, especially in the background of the5-12Wenchuan Earthquake.Specifically speaking,5-12Wenchuan Earthquake was one of the most serious disaster in China for years, the social concerns which arouse was unprecedented. In some degree, the disaster gave Chinese contemporary artists a chance to pay more attention and have more connection with social reality, and turn into public view with multiple identity. For this reason, the article selected the behavior of Chinese contemporary artists after Wenchuan Earthquake as the research subject, set the disaster as the special view point to describe the diversity of Chinese contemporary artists' identity today.The article was divided into three parts. First, art work benefit auction is the main way of Chinese contemporary artists taking part in disaster relief. It reflected that the self-identity construction of Chinese contemporary artists was back to diversity, but also strengthen their ambiguous relationship with capital ideology. Second, creating art work that reflected the disaster is the way of expressing ideal for Chinese contemporary artists. On the one hand, this was the chance to reverse self-image for them, on the other hand, the relationship between contemporary artists and the disaster was still alienative. In the art work, the disaster was more like spectacle or became the art capital of the artist. At last, the various appeal of Chinese contemporary artists after the disaster was point to one identity which they have emphasized for a time:the image of intellectuals.In a word, the article analysed couples of relationships such as artists and art institutions and art market, artists and their works, artists and disaster through the art work benefit auction and the creation of art work after Wenchuan Earthquake, in order to discuss the image of Chinese contemporary artists under the disaster background. The article figured out that there was a diverse and field-cross tendency in the Chinese contemporary artists'role which included humanist, social charity work and so on. And the article has a further discuss about the possibility and boundedness of Chinese artists'way back to the intellectuals.
