A Conversation Analysis Of Conflict Talks In Chinese TV Talk Shows

With the development of society, people have more opportunities to communicate with each other. The thesis of world now is harmony. This thesis is the intrinsic requirement of entire human society, as well as the inherent requirement of human. Nevertheless, in our daily life, conflict and harmony are always closely associated with each other. Now we advocate a harmonious society, which asks us to defuse contradictions and conflicts to make a better communication by using a more melodious language. As a language user and regulator, we have the responsibility and should try our best to mitigate all the conflicts, which is the requirement of our community as well as the unavoidable topic in our development. If only we alleviated all the conflicts effectively, we would enhance our communicative competence of our daily life to facilitate a better communicative effect and accelerate the pace of harmonious development of interpersonal relationship.Conflict talk is one of ubiquitous elements of our daily social life. As a linguistic phenomenon, it also arouses many researchers'attention. Some western scholars did relative researches and analysis from different aspects. As for conflict talk, usually the first thing calls to mind is its negative effects. The number of researches, which specialized in conflict talks, is relatively small. Especially, the studies on conflict talks at home are few and far between.Television is one of the most fundamental mass media to transmit message in our daily life. In addition, TV programs belong to one of the most important constructive factors of social life. Linguists did investigations on various TV program, for instance, news interviews, talk shows, radio interviews etc. from the aspects of pragmatics and conversation analysis. However, the studies on conflict talks in the above-mentioned programs are also rare. In view of the present situation, this thesis aims at interpreting the conflict talks of Chinese TV talk shows based on the conversation analysis.The linguistic material of this thesis is elaborately collected from the representative Chinese TV talk shows,《成长不烦恼》�'�《非你莫属》etc, in order to meet the objective effects and requirements. Namely, I chose the videos or recordings from the various websites carefully and then transcribed the relative part, which are involved in conflict talks.The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the conflict talks of Chinese TV talk shows in order to analyze with the aid of conversation analysis. The present paper research summarizes the relative problems and makes a deep investigation. Based on the collected data and transcriptions, this thesis analyzes and sums up the feature of the three basic stages of conflict talks:the initiation of conflict talks; the maintaining and escalating of conflict talks, and the termination of conflict talks from the microcosmic perspective. TV talk shows are semi-institutional in nature and conflict talks in TV talk shows possess the semi-institutional feature at the same time.It is hoped this thesis makes a contribution to the study of conflict talks and casts a brick to attract jade in the future discussions.
