Vocabulary learning is an essential component of L2acquisition, and it is of great importance for Chinese teachers to equip their students with effective vocabulary learning strategies (VLS). Chinese researchers need to understand native English speakers'current VLS use, and results of such research will help teachers conduct efficient VLS trainings.The main purpose of this study is to investigate the use of Chinese vocabulary learning strategies by87American college students. We found that cognitive strategy, social strategy and affective strategy are "generally used", and source strategy and metacognitive strategy are "sometimes used". We did not find correlation between proficiency levels with VLS use. We found that affective strategy has a correlation respectively with metacognitive, cognitive and social strategy; and metacognitive strategy has a correlation with cognitive strategy; and source strategy has a correlation with social strategy.
