China's development, both in international status and economic standing, has brought it new attention from all over the world. As a result, people worldwide are realizing the importance of Mandarin Chinese, including business-specific Chinese language. For this reason, materials for teaching Business Chinese have become a top priority in many classrooms. This paper will examine a variety of such materials used though the 20th century, over a period of the last 90 years. This will include the characteristics of Business Chinese, through a comparison between two textbooks, Basic Business Chinese (Liu, 2006) and Business Chinese Conversation (Huang,2007 ). It will also include an exploration of rules for writing Business Chinese textbooks in order to provide a reference for the creation of future textbooks. This paper will first introduce the English for Specific Purposes (ESP) Theory, and discuss its uses in teaching Business Chinese. It will also discuss the relationship between the teaching of basic Chinese language and Business Chinese. We believe that basic Chinese language is the cornerstone of Business Chinese, and that Business Chinese cannot be mastered without first learning basic Chinese language.Next, this paper will compare and analyze the sections of two different kinds of two textbooks, Basic Business Chinese and Business Chinese Conversation. We will find that both sections of text are in dialogue form, with Basic Business Chinese offering more common language. The choices of grammatical items are more than 50% consistent between the two textbooks. In our examination of vocabulary, we will see that Basic Business Chinese offers more business jargon. In terms of culture, we will see two different interpretations between the two books: Basic Business Chinese put culture in one session, while Business Chinese Conversation includes its culture lessons in the text. We will explain the differences in materials, exercises, and practice design by referencing the distinct backgrounds of the book's respective editors. After these comparisons, the paper will conclude by discussing appropriate teaching materials for teaching Business Chinese. This discussion will focus first on the preparation of the most practical teaching materials, then on the importance of including cultural background in various aspects of the Business English teaching system, third on adding more teaching methodology to the lesson.
