Traditionally, we agreed consistently that author is the"father"of work. However, the concept which called author as"father"of work was subverted by the turn of linguistic philosophy in the twentieth century. Especially, the post-structuralism literary theorists made a re-interpretation and definition of"author"at the point of elimination of the author's subject. For example, Roland Barthes first canceled the subjectivity of author and Claimed"The Death of Author". Then, the Psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan declared the statement of"The Death of Subject"and announced that the production of text is the unconscious product. As the response of Barthes's"The Death of Author", Michel Foucault published the paper of"What is the author?". Foucault announced that the author is the product of discourse practice from the point of view of discourse practice. As the masters of post-structuralism theory, three of them deconstructed the traditional author from the point of the digestion of subject, and thus made a new interpretation on"author". So, this thesis seizes the main text about theoretical analysis of author of the three theorists and makes the theoretical analysis in the horizontal line, and then combines with other theories of them to make the theoretical construction in vertical line in order to explore their author's view. And then I'll reveal that after post-structuralism literary theorists canceled the subjectivity of author, they focused on the conception and essential attribution of"author". This thesis has five parts: preface, The Death of Author, The Death of Subject, Author / author, and conclusion. The preface focus on the analyzing the present academic research status of the question about author, as well as academic innovation and significance of the text. The first chapter, which mainly discusses the Roland Barthes's "the Death of Author", analyses that why Barthes declare the Death of Author from the close reading of the two papers Writing Degree Zero and the Death of Author. The second chapter, which focuses on the Lacan's subject theory, analyses the process of the death of subject. The third chapter mainly discusses the"author-function"on the point of view of discourse practice. In the part of conclusion, this thesis mainly reveals the understanding of the conception of"author"which is focused by the post-structuralism literary theorists.
