Zhan Ganquan's philosophy of mind was based on the theory that one should personally realize the Principle of Nature wherever one may be, its core is "combination". This assay analyses Zhan's philosophy's characteristics from four aspects.Firsly, analyse from the aspect of personal experience and personality. People change the environment, and vice versa. The facts, Zhan Gan Quan's father died when he was young, while his mother was too mighty, ups and downs in the officialdom and so on, he himself was frustrated in the officialdom, formed his complicated and contrary character. He was determined and can change his side according to the current situations. Therefore, his philosophy insisted the theory that one should personally realize the Principle of Nature wherever one may be, and absorbed the theory of combination of quiet and motion, inside and outside, and other philosopher's (such as Cheng Zhu and Bai Sha) theories.Secondly, compare Gan with Chen Baisha. Baisha suggested quiet sitting, but Gan suggested mixture of motion and action, but Gan critcized because he saw the tendency of neglecting books and moving into Buddhism.on the other hand, the "quiety" that he was criticizing was the one that relative to "motion", which is different from what Ba Sha refered to. So, we can't blame Zhan just because he criticized Basha's point of view. on the contrary, it showed Zhan's philosophy of Practical Reflection, because this philosophy required one's personal practice. After Baisha failed in imperial examinations and working hard on books, he turned to searching for inner break through by sitting quietly. Though Zhan also tried to gain recuperation in this way, he criticized it. He experienced it himself, and he saw the disadvantages of it, so recruited it into his own theory that one should personally realize the Principle of Nature wherever one may be.Thirdly, compare Gan with Yang Ming. Both Zhan and Yang admited the main position of mind, but Yang laid particular stress on sincerity, objects existed because of the existence of mind, so explored the ouside world meaned to ask the outside world for help. While Zhan stressed on the capacity of mind, he thought, everything was in the world of mind, exploring the outside world could also brought inspiration to a person. Their argument about the theory of Ge Wu Zhi Zhi and Zhi Xing was based on the their differences of inside and outside of mind.Forthly, analyse Zhan's own philosophy of mind. Why his philosophy's core was the theory that one should personally realize the Principle of Nature wherever one may be was that his other theories was influenced by it, such as Jian Xiao Xin Zhi (meditatively intuiting the Great Unity), and the theory of Li Zhi (determination). From his piont of view, studying the mind grew whild the Principle of Nature fell, and process was called Jian Xiao Xin Zhi. While this process came with the combination of quiety and motion, so it could be found in different environment. Determination to Zhan, on the one hand, it meant ambition, what's more to it was that a person must paid his efforts though out his life. The former meant the recognition of morality, while the latter meant moral practice. They all should be realized by the centre theory of his philosophy. His philosophy valued "union", for the premise of the theory that one should personally realize the Principle of Nature wherever one may be was Da Xin Theory-union of outside and inside, the mind and the objects, motion and quiety.
