The main historical materials of this thesis is based on Sha Menghai's early diary 《ShengFu Ri Lu》which was first disclosed in September2010,the author looked into Sha Menghai "s calligraphy and seal ideology from the the relation of the masters and the intercourse with his friends., and the masters were Feng Junmu, Zhao Shuru, Wu Changshuo, Kang Youwei. Shen Cengzhi, ZhengXiaoxu, Ge Yifu and Wu Gongfu. The thesis that include Sha Menghai's main calligraphy ideology was constituted by four chapters, the first chapter is the friendship from literature to art between Feng Junmu and Sha Menghai; the second is argument of "YingYang" among Zhao Shuru.Wu Changshuo and Sha Menghai:the third is the argument of "find another way beyond Wan Xizhi and Wan Xianzhi"among Kang Youwei. Shen Cengzhi.Zheng Xiaoxu and Sha Menghai; the fourth is that Sha Menghai, Ge Yifu and Wu Gongfu decided to practice calligraphy and disscuss seals. each chapter was made up by independent argumentation, and they show Sha Menghai's comprehensive study of the opposite subjects:literature and art, new and old. yin and yang(the two opposing principles in nature), inscriptions on a tablet and copybook(for calligraphy), reputation and dormant. It is the friendship of Sha Menghai and his teachers that manifest his unique character and magnanimity, and therefore the author can repeatedly probe the evolvement and views of Sha Menghai's calligraphy ideology. The impact made on Sha Menghai's early life laid the foundation of his art.Sha Menghai is one of the key figures in the development of modern calligraphy. The calligraphy ideology of Sha Menghai carried forward the modern mainstream which was initiated by Wu Changshuo. Kang Youwei, Shen Cengzhi, Zheng Xiaoxu and so on in Late Qing and Early Republican China. The mainstream which began from late Ming dynasty was revival because of the prosperity of epigraphy. It surpassed "the old way of Tiexue started by Wang Xizhi and Wang Xianzhi",and Sha had an inclination for Beixue in a lifetime. The transcendence and temporal spirit of Beixue also has the contemporary value, It is the same as Sha's seal ideology which he followed Zhao Shuru and Wu Changshuo. Now the development of seal can be represented by the ups and downs of Zhao's and Wu's. so the aim that research Sha's calligraphy ideology is to distinct what Sha susscessed and developed from the masters in late Qing and Early Republican China, also track down the origin of contemporary calligraphy.The mode of the thesis is research and argumentum. The author try to form a clear thread of Sha's calligraphy thought which run through the article from the original evidence. Owing to the new edition of 《ShengFu Ri Lu》,the author also clarify some facts and judgment in his power.
