The Research Of GaoYong And His Calligraphy Works

Gao Yong was one of the key figures of the Shanghai Picture Faction in the late Qing dynasty and early Republic of China.This dissertation will probe and research from several aspects: life and family,aliases and seals,social intercourse,collection,compiling and recordation,the whole process of social activity,the research of the selling condition by himself,the research of remuneration,the research of Gao Yong’s calligraphy.And,depend on these six areas,this dissertation consisted of five paragraphs.The first paragraph is introduction which includes the background and significance of this research,the status analysis from both domestic and overseas and the research method of this thesis.The second paragraph is mainly about Gao Yong’s life and family,aliases and seals,social intercourse,collection,compiling and recordation.The third paragraph is mainly about “a research on the whole process of social activity which Gao Yong took part in” and “ the research of selling works and remuneration ”.The forth paragraph is primarily about the the research of Gao Yong’s calligraphy.The “ aliases and seals,social intercourse,collection,compiling and recordation,the whole process of social activity,the condition of selling calligraphy works by himself and the remuneration” will be the main clue of this thesis,while “the research of Gao Yong’s calligraphy”will be another main clue.The first mainly clue: Firstly,analyzing the interplay between Gao Yong and other artists in Shanghai Picture Faction by describing the social intercourse of Gao Yong before his sixty years old.Secondly,extracting Gao’s contribution to the art history by summarizing Gao Yong’s collection,compiling and recordation.Thirdly,the whole process of Yu Garden Painting and Calligraphy Charity,The condition of selling calligraphy works by himself and the remuneration in the late Qing will be analyzed and reseached.After these analyses,there will be a reasonable evaluation of Gao Yong in the history of Shanghai Picture Faction.The second mainly clue: first of all,summarizing the tendency of aesthetic of calligraphy in the late Qing dynasty.In the second place,analyzing the chirography and the magnum opus ofGao Yong.Next,verifying Gao Yong’s calligraphy works,and making an overview of Gao Yong’s calligraphy learning experience.In the fifth paragraph,I will make a reasonable status by the dissections mentioned above,and analyze the reason why Gao Yong faded after he passed away in 1921.There will be two chronological catalogues of Gao Yong’s his seals and calligraphy works in the appendix.
